How the D-index is computed
For each focal paper, we look at papers that cite it (its citers) and compare their reference lists to the focal paper’s own references. The counts below summarize how the focal paper is cited, and together form the D-index score.
Formula
D = (nf − nb) / (nf + nb + nl)
Note: this page computes nf and nb by fetching citers (with their referenced works), and can in this calcualtor we skip nl to stay fast in-browser.
nf
# citers that cite the focal paper only (they do not cite any of its references)
nb
# citers that cite the focal paper and at least one of its references (co-citation / “building onâ€)
nl
# papers that cite the references but not the focal paper (optional; expensive to compute)
